“Earth after mankind. Machines are trying to recreate primitive organic life inside their laboratories.
“
A few weeks ago, I rediscovered and digitally “remastered” this old film school project, which I missed making available to a wider audience until today. Atem is a short movie I created during my second year studying film & media at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in 2003. The whole production process from concept to finish took 4 months. I was very happy being able to bring a music producing friend from Berlin, Henrik Schwarz, on board. The track he produced, based on early animatics, turned out to support the story and character of the project perfectly. Shortly after finishing Atem, I moved on to work on visual effects in Los Angeles, and despite Atem’s promising first run at film festivals, I almost forgot about the project, until not too long ago.
Technology has changed a lot since I initially created Atem, and I am curious if this short /slash/ music clip can still stand the test of time in front of a “web 2.0 audience”…
